can you say hero?
submarine sandwhich.
i have found a local god here in spartanburg. his name is stephen long and he is the god of AWESOME MAGIC. with out his guiding light, my spartanburg reality would certainly be much much less chic, thus depressing, ugly and a failed life in general. i owe him big time. for reals.
how did he get to be this way? i could go into the long archetypal hero journey that stephen underwent to attain his god status invovling bubble lamps, beatle boots, and a knoll tulip chair set but instead i’ll just show you his mighty might mighty power.
he found me some friends…
(these girls need names, suggestions more than welcome.)
he’s lent me four of his own FABULOUS chairs so i can make everyone sit around a table for a spaghetti dinner and laugh hysterically, mouth full of pasta, at the nicety of it all… (seriously the food and company were great but what made it unreal was how foxy these chairs are)
H O T![]()
he guided my spirit to the closest thing to “home” i have found down here, and thus with this couch set has helped me establish my room as the a.i.r. den… seriously this is where you can find us at nights near end. i thought for sure last call would be at some dive somewhere in town, but no, it’s up in this classy joint![]()
stephen supports the love of fine brewed beer, ice cream, photomurals (the outdoors inside!), onion rings, and modern design (eames weekend was great btw. the movies have rekindled a love of material culture, and validated my existence here as a designer first, “artist” second. too bad i fell asleep knitting before i could catch the band on saturday night… classic)
seriously, design snobs of the world unite and get down here to worship at the feet of the ultimate idol. (put the whoopwhoop where ever stephen wants)
THANKYOUTHANKYOU!
ps: song of the day? atreve-te-te by calle 13 (big ups techita!) until i figure out how to put these jams on here for you to hear you’ll have to find them yourself…

So i started this new job yesterday, and am doing all this research for the woman who is doing what I want to be doing- mainly making. (But why is it you can never make until there is not time to make and you are wanting to make and then you go crazy and don’t stay up for weeks?) But the point of this story is, I am reseraching for her, and saw mention of residencies, and started thinking about you, and grew so interested and just want to talk to you, this is so cool what I am doing, your place is BEAUTIFUL, and I am plainly VERY VERY jealous. We need to talk, pronto. Tell me what this is all about. You are stars, and I remember something you said nice once about dental floss to me. Thank you.

Derya, I meant it is so cool what YOU are doing. Not what I am doing. I meant you. you. you. you. you. Can I really come visit? You have a car? So EXOTIC. I LOVE fried okra!
